Porch of the Month – June 2018

Congratulations to the McEvoy family! This fun-loving crew has created a space on their porch that is an extension of their personality and a place they enjoy time together every evening.

What is your favorite thing about having a front porch?

Storm watching on the porch is the best. The best porch experience yet was being able to enjoy Hurricane Matthew from the front porch. Our porch faces South so we were sheltered from the winds and sat on the porch most of the day. We played Mexican train, listened to music, and enjoyed both the peace and fury of the storm.

Was there a special inspiration in the decorating of your porch?

I love bright colors and flowers. Most of the porch furniture came with the house when we purchased it but I’ve painted it recently to brighten it up. I have lots of hanging baskets of impatiens (because they are so easy to grow and colorful) and other flowers. We always have a hammock up and you can usually find my youngest daughter, Maia, swinging and listening to music.

How long have you lived in Springfield?

We moved to the hood from the beach in February 2016, so not too long ago. From the first day this neighborhood has felt like home. We love it here.

What is the best part of living in Springfield?

There is so much to love about Springfield! Top of the list is the people, what a wonderful, giving, and eclectic group. Second Sunday’s are great place to catch up with all the neighbors, listen to music, and enjoy beautiful Klutho Park.

What advice would you give to folks thinking about moving to Springfield?

What are you waiting for? Come join us for a beer at Main & 6th and take a walk through the neighborhood.
